My Entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #499

Here is my entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #499 for November 23, 2015. The drawing is by Michael Maslin.

"Does it look like rain?"

A few similarly-misguided caption ideas:
"You forgot your umbrella!"
"I told you to bring your umbrella!"
"Hold your breath!"
"Stay dry!"
"Oh, and don't forget your eyedrops!"

December 14, 2015 Update:  Winning Caption

Note:  Last week, Jack Ziegler demonstrated his swordsmanship. My caption was not worthy of Camelot. See the smashing results of Contest #498.

  1. Some of yours are similar to ones I was mulling over. I had an umbrella one I didn't enter: "Stay right there. I'll get your umbrella."

My entry: "They're calling for localized flooding."

    1. Gboris, your entry is not unlike the third finalist.

    2. I considered "isolated shower" or "isolated storm", but I nixed it because I didn't think an isolated shower was a reason for the wife to be yelling after the husband. I still like mine more. The Cloud one is awful.

    3. Either the guy who submitted the Cloud caption has a lot of friends, or people actually are strangely saying they are "sending from the Cloud". After all, the Cloud is just the internet.

    4. The Cloud sounds more timely than the Internet.

    5. But nobody says they're sending from the Internet or the Cloud. They just say they're emailing something, sending a message, sending a file, etc.

  2. Can I send you an email to your aol account? I have something I want to tell you privately.
