Sam Gross: National Ice Cream Day

Happy National Ice Cream Day! If you're in Princeton and you're looking for ice cream you have several great choices but only one of them has a framed New Yorker cartoon up on the wall. I refer to Halo Pub at 9 Hulfish Street. The cartoon was published in 1983 and is by Sam Gross. It is in an oval frame--a tricky choice--with an opaque white added around the borders to obscure extraneous type and the need to add some paper on the left. The cartoon is very well known more than thirty years after publication and served as the title cartoon for one of Mr. Gross's collections.
