The Syd Hoff website is here and this cartoon is on it. There's a tidbit here on the real Harold Klein and Syd Hoff. Harold Klein was a Communist Party member investigated during the McCarthy Era. Is there a leftist inside joke here? Probably, but it seems to have nothing to do with the gag. Does anyone know any other instances of a New Yorker cartoon with a friend's or acquaintance's name surreptitiously planted in the gag?
More World War II cartoons posts are here.
Is this too new? I also have a couple of World War I posts here.
