My Entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #502

Here is my entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #502 for December 14, 2015. The life-affirming drawing is by Tom Toro.

"He handled all the arrangements beforehand."

These alternate captions were dead on arrival:
"He said he wanted a big headstone."
"He always was a huge Deadhead."
"He hated attention."
"I still feel he's watching over me."

January 16, 2016 Update:  Winning Caption

Note:  Two weeks ago Liam Francis Walsh created a caption contest in semaphore. I ran my caption up the flagpole but no one saluted. See the unflagging results of Contest #501.

The blog archives have two previous caption contests by Tom Toro.

  1. I think yours is very good. I think "watching over me" is also good. I think one finalist will be something like that. I was thinking of something like "Now he's smiling down on us." I went with something that I knew was a long shot but I liked best: "The epitaph is written on his face."
