Peter Arno's original cartoon art for The New Yorker from 1937 depicts an unusual hunting trophy room. The art was sold on Saturday at auction. The cartoonist is having some fun with the notion of responsible hunting.

The idea the colonel expresses has serious adherents today, but Arno goes and undercuts it by showing us barnyard animal mounts. |

The presale auction estimate of $800 to $8000 is rather broad, but really not so farfetched.
Online bidding opened at $10. There wasn't a chance of getting this piece for that price.
The sale price of $1,600 comes out to $2,000 with the buyer's premium. Tax and shipping are not included.
