Joe Dator: Catching the Cliche

Joe Dator's cartoon for The New Yorker issue of March 29, 2021 takes an idiom we've all heard and somehow turns it into something unexpected. This is one of the reasons—there are many others—I am perpetually fascinated by cartoons and the people who create them. It's not everybody who can look at a cliche with fresh eyes.

The original art has a caption which differs slightly from that of the published drawing. The artist explains the reason for this in the listing which appeared on eBay in January of this year.
