Roz Chast's Bucket List Rough

No doubt Roz Chast is one of the more popular New Yorker cartoonists working today and popularity tends to bring more work to the art market, including unpublished work. It is surprising, then, that we haven't see the sale of all that many New Yorker cartoon roughs by the artist. Possibly those lucky enough to be owners of her preliminary art are pleased enough to hold on to it. An exception may be the 2014 rough of her bucket list cartoon that was sold on eBay in the following year.

eBay Bid History
One bidder leaves two bids; the second is for insurance.

The finished art is conceptually quite close to the preliminary art, but it is more detailed. The proportions of the finish are shorter and wider, taking some unneeded emphasis off the store fronts across the street and eliminating a row of windows that competes with the title. The thought balloon has been shifted downwards, further separating the two areas of text and serving to emphasize "the guy's" slouch.
