My Entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #489

Here is my entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #489 for September 14, 2015. The drawing is by Drew Dernavich.

"Did you all get my text?"

October 5, 2015 Update:  Winning Caption

Note: Last week, Charlie Hankin's cartoon was out of this world, but my caption was made of green cheese. See the unearthly result of Contest #488.

Drew Dernavich has been around the linoleum block a few times.

It's nearly the fall. See what this blogger has to say about that.

  1. The cartoon isn't clear to me. At first I thought the person was shouting down (like you did), but then I decided the person was talking into a phone. I could be wrong. Anyway, my caption is: "I got caught in a speed trap."

    1. I agree that the speaker is talking into a mobile phone. For my caption to make sense, he must have gone from a group text to a conference call with all the people driving in his immediate vicinity. Perhaps a bit of a stretch?

  2. Oh I see now. Yeah, maybe a stretch. But mine is too probably. You've got to stretch your imagination a little to see them all in a trap.

  3. Well, it looks like there was no phone after all. Either that, or so many people didn't see it that the judges just ignored it too.
