My Entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #946

I entered the first caption I thought of in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #946 from the issue of June 2, 2025. I could have tried to work through it all week, but I didn't think I would do any better. In the cartoon, a dog demonstrates a scientific formula to two labworkers. The mathematical conclusion is a bone. The female lab worker comments. My entry appears below. The drawing is by Lonnie Millsap.

"We should check his math."

My Entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #859

Eureka! If you can't read the writing on the wall, try the blackboard in The New Yorker  Cartoon Caption Contest #859 from the issue of July 31, 2023. My caption is shown below. The drawing is by Juan Astasio.

"What were we looking for again?"

These captions didn't compute:

"It's so obvious!"
"How could we have missed it?"
"You were right. It's the null set."
"I forgot to factor in our combined weight."
"I forgot to carry the one."
"It IS rocket science."
"I can't sort this out. Let's call them non-human biologics."

Back to Schule

It's that time of year again. At the blackboard, Oskar Schlemmer's slender, young schoolteacher demonstrates the x-, y-, and z-axes as she stands before rows of abstract student's heads.
