Richard Oldden: Begging for Trouble

Four more original cartoons by Richard Oldden were sold as a group on eBay late last month. Two have address stamps from the artist's New York City studio and the other two have the Laguna Beach stamps. As in yesterday's post, Oldden gives us a desert island cartoon and a Little Dutch Boy cartoon. He also visits the themes of storming the medieval castle and trading trinkets with the natives.

The first two have handwritten captions. Oldden demonstrates some difficulty distinguishing the spelling of the words their and they're. It's not all that interesting, so today I'll just correct it.
"My God, get a load of these sea shells."            "Sir . . . they're just begging for trouble."

The invasion of inexpensive Japanese electronic goods was a popular concern in the 1970s. Of course, one doesn't see many cartoons about trading trinkets with native cultures today. The same goes for cartoons about the Little Dutch Boy.
"I have to hand it to you, Mr. Takano . . . it sure beats glass beads."             Little Dutch Boy
