Barbara Shermund: Shop Talk

Barbara Shermund's original color cartoon art of a conversation between two single young women most probably ran in Pictorial Review in the 1940's or 1950's. The woman on the right loves it when her boyfriend talks shop--and with good reason. The cartoon reinforces the stereotype that attractive women are interested in men with money, although in this case the money might be rather difficult to get one's fingers on. The framed original artwork was sold in February on eBay for $75 plus shipping.

"Oh, I love to hear him talk shop--He works for the U.S. mint!"

January 12, 2019 Update:  This cartoon does not seem to be in Esquire's online archive, so I am provisionally reassigning it in the body of the above text to Pictorial Review. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can document its publication history.

Note:  You're in luck! This blog has more original art by the very capable Barbara Shermund.

There's also a fair amount of original cartoon art to be found here.
