A woman, a chair, two cats, and a flute: these are the basic inhabitants of this lyrical drawing by William Steig. It was published in his outstanding 1979 collection Drawings. Apparently this is one of the few drawings from the book that was not published in The New Yorker, though it's hard to see why not.
