Ted Geisel. whom you may know as Dr. Seuss, was born on this day in 1904. He visited Peru on more than one occasion and presumably drew a lot of llamas among other things. Four of these 1925 Peruvian drawings in Dr. Seuss's fanciful style were collected in The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss. Another related drawing, evidently from the 1930's, features a pair of llamas and was dedicated to "Hope Morris/That Llama Fancier." It was sold at Sotheby's London in 2009 and once again at Swann Galleries in New York in January of 2013. First here is the London 2009 sale:

The very same piece was sold again in January of this year at Swann Galleries in New York for considerably more. I would not at all be surprised by a generally stronger market for Dr. Seuss artwork here in the United States:
