Ronald Searle's Hopelessly Mixed-Up Vampire Bat

After showing so many of Gahan Wilson's vampire bats this week, I had to offer up this lone example of the species as drawn by Ronald Searle. So, nature lovers, here we have your typical Hopelessly mixed-up vampire bat trying to conceal the fact that its tastes are rigidly vegetarian. This is a close variant of a drawing published in Searle's 1981 collection The Situation is Hopeless (known in the U.K. as The King of Beasts & other creatures).

A similar drawing was published in The Situation is Hopeless, 1981.

    1. Matt, it's always wonderful to see your photos of the roughs. I suppose the originals are now in the Wilhelm Busch Museum in Hannover. I hope you have enough photos for many, many more posts on your blog.
