Ed Arno: Self-Portrait on a First Day Cover
Some time in the final decade of his life, cartoonist Ed Arno (1916-2008) signed a first day cover of the U.S. Space Discovery issue. He added a small self-portrait in profile. The space stamp, of course, has nothing at all to do with Arno's addition to the cover; the two, in my opinion, create no synergy and don't belong together. Yet collectors continue to present unrelated first day covers to all manner of celebrities for their signatures.
