History for Sale offers this undated birthday greeting depicting Brother Sebastian carrying a cake with a single candle. The drawing is by cartoonist Chon Day. It is on a 3 x 5 inch card and is offered at $599, with occasional seasonal discounting evidently factored into the price. Nevertheless, dealers who specialize in historical documents seem to be asking prices far out of line with offerings of similar items on eBay. They also seem to be overly fond of watermarks in there images. I have a little theory that the use of watermarks is associated with higher than average asking prices, but I leave it to the scholars among you to try and prove it. In the meantime, I'm going to have some cake.
