This image is scanned from a Swann Galleries postcard promoting the forthcoming winter sale of Printed and Manuscript African Americana. The 1835 engraving by Patrick Reason was first published in 1836 in The Fountain for Every Day of the Year. It became quite well-known, and was later used in other contexts to promote the abolitionist cause.
