The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella (2010)
Stephenie Meyer
Bree Tanner is a memorable character from Eclipse (2007), the third novel in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. The story arc is already familiar to anyone who has read Eclipse or seen the movie. We all know things are not going to end well for Bree. But in Eclipse, we see her merely as a scared newbie vampire. Here we get to know her as an individual. She comes across as clever and perceptive. We get to like her. So she is now even more of a tragic figure.
This book, which is marketed as "an Eclipse novella," uses material apparently developed for Eclipse but not used in the book, most likely because it is too peripheral to the firsthand experience of Bella. This book is not meant to stand on its own. It does add a bit of background to the events of Eclipse for those millions who have already read the book and still crave to know more.
Note: For my brief book review of Nightlight: A Parody by the Harvard Lampoon, look no further than yesterday's post.
