Anyone who has seen Walt Disney's1933 animated short "Puppy Love" can tell you that Pluto's girlfriend is Minnie's dog Fifi. Here that great canine couple grace the cover of Mickey Mouse Magazine, Pluto, of course, being Mickey's dog. You can see that Pluto and Fifi remain an item in February of 1939. So far as I know, it's still going strong.

Mickey Mouse and the gang don ice skates for some surprisingly perilous winter fun in the 1935 Disney short "On Ice." The cover to the Holiday Number of Mickey Mouse Magazine from December 1935proves a convenient tie-in to the beautiful new cartoon. Five years later, the magazine cover featured another character from the short, Minnie Mouse.As we have seen before,what is today some rather old-fashioned sex role stereotyping seems to be in play here. Where the dashing Mickey is confident and cheerful, Minnie is awkward and fearful, looking very much the damsel in distress. Now who do you suppose will come to her aid?
