The Complete Cartoons of The New Yorker Signed by Arnie Levin, Bob Mankoff, and David Sipress

The Complete Cartoons of The New Yorker was first published in 2004. Many copies are available signed by the book's editor Bob Mankoff. It is more unusual to find a copy signed by a group of cartoonists.

Heartwood Books and Art of Fort Lauderdale has just listed a copy of the collection signed by three New Yorker cartoonists, each adding a drawing. Cartoon editor Bob Mankoff turns the B of his name into a rudimentary self-portrait; it is uninspired drawings like this one that keep many of his signed books off this particular blog.

Cartoonists Arnie Levin and David Sipress fare decidedly better with a drawing of a cat and a dog, respectively. Heartwood Books mangles both their names into "David Sirness and Arnie Wilson," and prices the book at $300. Perhaps that price is an error as well, but this seems doubtful.

The cartoonists haven't dedicated their drawings to any particular recipient and the book might have been meant for the business office to distribute to advertisers or friends of the magazine. We have not seen an example of a book signed by these three cartoonists previously.

Its two CD-ROMs remain invaluable today, especially for anyone who dreams of writing a blog occasionally touching on the subject of New Yorker cartoons.

Note:  Last month I introduced Docnad's Conjecture, the suggestion that if a book such as this one signed by three New Yorker cartoonists exists, there must be other similar books signed at the same time by this group of cartoonists. It's a hard proposition to disprove, so please don't try, at least not without a doctorate in mathematics. Instead, if you have such a book, please send scans or photos to the email address associated with this blog. David Sirness and Arnie Wilson will thank you.
