Yesterday an animation drawing from Walt Disney's animated short "Woodland Café" (1937) was sold at Heritage Auctions. A caterpillar couple—or perhaps they're earwigs—is shown tearing up the dance floor. The art is from the lively opening of the Silly Symphony. The couple must be doing the jitterbug.
Over the last two years, auctioneer Howard Lowery sold two fine animation drawings of a grasshopper playing the bass fiddle from one of the most delightful Walt Disney Silly Symphonies, "Woodland Café."The 1937 animated short was directed by Wilfred Jackson and it features some of the world's best Big Band bugs. If you can imagine animated insects possessing the energy and the artistry of the big band era, you have an idea of what this unique, jazzy short has to offer.
