In the 1950's, television was the new technology and the source of many a New Yorker gag. Here's a full-page cartoon from that era by the one and only Peter Arno depicting a little New Year's revelry. Back in the day, I imagine that Arno would be the ideal cartoonist to hang out with on New Year's Eve.
