My Entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #1002

In The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #1002 from the issue of August 17, 2026, four monkeys sing in a barbershop quartet while two laboratory workers observe them through glass. The older woman speaks. My submission is shown below. The drawing is by Benjamin Schwartz.

"So you found them at the bottom of the barrel?"

These captions were not in tune:

"They're swell. You and I are no longer in harmony."
"Run your next project by me first."
"Great job. We've been defunded."

My Entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #946

I entered the first caption I thought of in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #946 from the issue of June 2, 2025. I could have tried to work through it all week, but I didn't think I would do any better. In the cartoon, a dog demonstrates a scientific formula to two labworkers. The mathematical conclusion is a bone. The female lab worker comments. My entry appears below. The drawing is by Lonnie Millsap.

"We should check his math."

Francis Crick's Nobel Prize

I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me that there is a robust market for old Nobel Prizes. After all, one can buy old Olympic Medals, Academy Awards, and Super Bowl rings. On April 10, Heritage Auctions will be selling the Nobel Prize Medal and Diploma that belonged to Francis H. C. Crick (1916-2004), co-discoverer of the double-helical structure of DNA along with James D. Watson and Maurice Wilkins. The price is expected to exceed $500,000, which is daunting, but the prospect of winning a Nobel Prize on one's own is considerably more daunting!
