Light Work, a proposed New Yorker cover by Ronald Searle, could be interpreted in one of at least two ways. First off, it may be seen as an indictment of the crass commercialism that reduces us all to faceless high-end consumers every year at around this time. On the other hand, it may be seen as a cheap sight gag about how many arms it takes to carry all the swell gifts home. Either way, Searle makes the impossibly desirable look, well—impossibly desirable.
