Here is my entry in the New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #505 for January 11, 2016. The drawing is by Mick Stevens.
These alternate captions didn't deserve a bite:
January 18, 2016 Update: The Finalists
February 1, 2016 Update: Winning Caption
Note: Last week Tom Cheney showed us the life of a modern working woman. My caption was a little stiff. Carry home the results of Contest #504.
Mick Stevens has created some preposterously challenging caption contest cartoons. Please don't encourage him.

In the comments section, gboris notes a similarity with Contest #307 (October 24, 2011). The drawing is by Sidney Harris.

"It wasn't a tight squeeze on the way out."
ReplyDeleteThis is a tough one because it's not a significant incongruity (it's still an animal). Same goes for the guillotine (still could kill).
Darn, I just thought of one I like better than my entry:
Delete"Didn't I tell you to stop all that barking?"
Yes, I like that one too!
DeleteI seem to recall a past contest cartoon that also had alligators and also had a finalist that had a joke about shoes being from someone they know.
ReplyDeleteI was also thinking of an Amazon caption...I have to give the person credit for having the man talking to his wife rather than the alligator.
Yes, I think I'll vote for the Amazon caption.
ReplyDeleteIf you can find that old contest, let me know.
Found it. Contest #307. Two alligators on a subway. Winning caption was "That lady's shoes kind of remind me of Joey."
DeleteThanks. Got it.
