Christie's, the venerable auction house, gives this polar watercolor by Charles Addams the title For the Momma Bear. On reflection, I'm sure they'd call "For the Momma Bear" a dedication or an inscription rather than a title. Given the heart-shaped ice floe, the drawing may well have been created as a valentine.
Note: In yesterday's post, also about Charles Addams, I speculated that an Addams Family drawing dedication signed "PB" may have been referring to himself as Poppa Bear. I made the unstated assumption that both these Addams pieces from Christie's came from the same owner, and if the valentine's recipient was "Momma Bear," Addams could very well have been "Poppa Bear." I don't just pull these things out of thin air.
