Janet Flanner (1892-1978) was The New Yorker's Paris correspondent. From 1925, the year of the magazine's founding, to 1975, she wrote the "Letter from Paris" column under the pseudonym Genêt. In the year 1926, she also published The Cubical City, her one and only novel. Her reputation as a writer, though, continues to rest on her work for The New Yorker.
