I am not at all familiar with Maurice Sendak's Die Geschichte von den sieben kleinen Riesen or The Story of the Seven Little Giants (1975)—with Giants later translated as Monsters in the first English edition of 1977—but they are clearly less appealing than the Wild Things which they somewhat resemble. There's something endearing in the phrase little giants which I don't think the English title captures. Sendak has sketched the fifth monster, the one sticking out his tongue, in a rare copy of the first German edition now offered on AbeBooks for $1,400.
