Moses "Morris" Lurie (30 October 1938 – 8 October 2014) was an Australian writer of comic novels, short stories, essays, plays, and children's books. His work focused on the comic mishaps of Jewish-Australian men (often writers) of Lurie's generation, who are invariably jazz fans.
An Australian bookseller is selling author Morris Lurie's copy of Don't Talk to Strange Bears (1969), Edward Koren's first book. It has a full page dedicatory drawing of a mustachioed figure in top hat and tails—let's call him Uncle Sam—who appears to be indicating the eastern seaboard on a map of the United States.
