Where the Wild Things Aren't

Back in 1988, I was pretty excited to learn of the 25th Anniversary Edition of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are, which was published in a special limited edition of 220. Each slipcased volume included an original drawing by Mr. Sendak (one of three different drawings that he made for this project). I don't remember the exact price back then, $450 to $550 I should think. I told my brother about this edition and he bought it right up, then had the original drawing beautifully framed (with a triple mat, no less). I for whatever reason did not follow suit and where am I today? Well, let's just say there are no original Sendak drawings anywhere in my home. Yes, I take full responsibility for this travesty.

Now Swann Galleries has one coming up for sale on the 24th, copy 176 of 220. It carries a very robust estimate of $5,000 to $7,500! As they say where the wild things are, ouch!
