In Bruce's copy of Gahan Wilson's America, (1985), the cartoonist dedicates the book to "a fellow Lovecraftian." The creature Wilson has drawn so deftly in the book is H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu, "A monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind."
