Illustrator Russell Patterson recognized E. Simms Campbell's talent early and it was he who suggested that Campbell specialize in drawing women. In a 1944 letter to a fan, Patterson, a prolific cartoonist who himself specialized in drawing women, states that he has no originals on hand, and agreeing to send one along when it becomes available, in the meanwhile provides an autograph drawing of a woman's head in profile.
