The new biography of Saul Steinberg by Deirdre Bair features a cover photograph showing the artist wearing one of his own paper masks. The photographer is Inge Morath. Another photo of hers from this shoot is currently offered for sale at London's Chris Beetles Gallery. I wonder whether Steinberg preferred hiding behind his paper masks.
