"Winston Churchill at 91 is still turning out canvases. He paints only landscapes because 'no tree ever complained about its likeness.'" Edward Sorel himself draws a pretty mean likeness of the older statesman. The original watercolor is inscribed to a Manhattan ophthalmologist and cartoon collector: "For David Pearce with Blood, Sweat, and Eyedrops—Edward Sorel."

Note: Any reader who can recall or otherwise learn this artwork's history of publication, if any, is encouraged to write or, at the very least, leave a comment. It was exhibited with work from Literary Lives, Sorel's 2006 book, but Churchill was not one of that volume's ten literary subjects.
