In 1978, the United States Postal Service issued a souvenir sheet to coincide with the Canadian International Postal Exhibition, or CAPEX. The sheet featured eight stamps depicting wildlife found along the border of the United States and Canada. First day covers for this issue are a postal novelty: American stamps canceled by the USPS with a Toronto postmark.
One of the eight stamps on the souvenir sheet featured a chipmunk, and it is the cachet of this stamp's first day cover that cartoonist Morrie Turner (1923-2014), creator of the Wee Pals comic strip, was asked to sign. Turner gets high marks for working with the material he was given. The cover was offered for sale on eBay in 2014.
