Charles Addams: An Uncle Fester Sketch for Robert

In recent years, original Addams Family art by Charles Addams, much of it created for The New Yorker, has been selling for prices up in the stratosphere. That price inflation may be seen downmarket as well, albeit on a lesser scale. A sketch of Uncle Fester drawn on New Yorker stationery for a fan, Robert, came to auction this week with a presale estimate of "$200+." It sold for $1,026.

Look carefully, and you can see writing on the back of the sheet heavy enough to come through on the scan. It says Charles Addams near the top and underneath Uncle Fester.
