My Entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #397

Play ball! Here is my entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest #397 for September 30, 2013. The drawing is provided by Mort Gerberg. The caption is provided by me.

"I'm guessing he's their closer."

Here are a few other caption ideas:
"Did you notice their batboy is holding a sickle?"
"Well, I got away with not paying my taxes...."
"I'm not stepping into the batter's box until I see his number."
"We've got to start checking the roster more carefully."

Note:  My previous entry in The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Contest can be found here.

I am currently a finalist in the Moment magazine Cartoon Caption Contest. Read all about my first cartoon caption success here and vote for your favorite entry.

Mort Gerberg previously appeared on this blog here in my essential post on The Best of the Rejection Collection Event.

The cartoonist's website is here.

Enjoy Mr. Gerberg's work in the Cartoon Bank here.

News about Mr. Gerberg is covered on Ink Spill here.

Welcome to the postseason. I have a few more posts about baseball here.

My blog salutes our irresponsible elected representatives with a rough drawing by cartoonist Mischa Richter from my collection. It seems to be the sort of thing I should keep linking to here for the duration of the government shutdown. In this way, I don't need to write repeatedly about the failings of our leaders. Is anyone impressed with this grandstanding? Anyway, the drawing is getting a lot of play in the archives here.
